Associated Wear Coatings currently uses a Metco Plasma Spray System. This system give us the ability to spray any available powder of the correct mesh size. This is a result of the 30,000 degree F temperatures that can be readily obtained with commercial plasma equipment. One of the plasma coatings done at Associated Wear Coatings is the restoration of dimensions on gas turbine hatchets with Chrome Carbide. Finish grinding and polishing is then done in house.

Another common use for plasma coatings is the application of Yttria Stabilized Zirconium on  parts for protection from hot gas erosion. Like  the fuel nozzles being coated in this picture. (right)

Chrome Oxide is a widely used plasma coating that has excellent resistance to wear from abrasive grains, hard surfaces, particle erosion and cavitation. This material is, when properly sealed, also recommended for use in corrosive chemical environments with temperatures up to 400 degrees F. (see below)
