Spray and Fuse (also
known as Spraywelding or Hard facing) is one of the thermal
spray process that Associated Wear Coatings has specialized in since
the company opened it's doors. The Spray and Fuse process consists
of spraying a powdered alloy (nickel or cobalt based) on a part and
then the sprayed overlay is fused to the base metal by torch or
furnace heat. (1875 - 2100 degrees Fahrenheit)
This creates a smooth, nonporous, welded hard surface that can then
be ground and lapped to a low RMS finish. |

Associated Wear
Coatings is one of the major coaters of Sprayed and Fused gate
valves in the southwest. We currently have three vacuum furnaces
that are dedicated for the gate fusing process. The advantage of
using the vacuum furnaces for fusing is that it allows us to run
large quantities at once, while still assuring that all of the gates
are uniformly heated to the correct fusing temperature. Another
process done regularly at Associated Wear Coatings is the
application of Stellite SF #6 on thermowells. This is done to
protect the thermowells from chemical and/or particle erosion. |
